A National Health & Nutrition Examination Survey (NHNES) from the US of 4000 teenagers, showed that 34% were overweight or obese. Those considered pre-diabetic or diabetic was 23%. Nearly half of the overweight teens and two-thirds of the obese teens had one or more risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Even one-third of the normal weight teens had at least one risk factor for CVD. Thus today’s teenagers have more risk factors for CVD than did teens of earlier decades, the study quotes.
